I grew up in San Diego, California and attended a Christian grade school and a pubic high school. I graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa with degrees in Elementary Education and English- Language Arts. I have taken several graduate level courses in Reading and Literacy Instruction at Grand Valley.
I taught fifth grade in California and Colorado in Christian schools. After moving to Michigan, I have taught fourth and fifth grades in both Christian and public schools. I have also taught reading instruction and intervention for a few years. I am so excited and blessed to be teaching fourth grade at Dutton Christian!
My husband, Mike and I, have two sons, who are students at Dutton Christian. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors; camping, boating, and traveling! We attend Lakeside Community CRC and I serve on the Global Compassion team. In my free time, I enjoy running and reading!
Why I Became a Christian School Teacher
In my classroom at Dutton Christian, I can boldly share my faith and teach my students from a Christian perspective! Our Christian beliefs are at the foundation of all that we are learning. I believe each child is created by God and I strive to help them discover how they can use their gifts to serve Him!
Examples of How I Integrate Faith Into My Classroom
In my classroom, we discover God and his world in all content areas! We marvel at his hand in creation while studying erosion in science class. We see his structure and design in number patterns and operations in math. We discover how we can use the gift of language and communication to serve Him and others in reading and writing, Biblical truths are evident in all content areas as we seek to follow Christ in all we do!
I love running and have run several half marathons and have been part of a 200 mile relay team!
