The children in the elementary music classroom do a lot of singing and experiencing the beat and a variety of ways. Students learn to read rhythms and identify the beat, they listen to several different composers and experiment with form in music, they also learn to write basic elements of music, and experience different musical instruments. This year we are spending a bit of time exploring actual music in the Songs For Life books, this helps in counting and literacy skills.
Musical games are incorporated to improve everyday learning and stimulation that affects not only music but their learning across subject areas. We also work together to create community and team building. Time is also spent on literacy and reading as well as learning how to read music and music symbols. Once a year we have elementary programs, one for the early elementary (Early 5’s-2nd grade) and one for the upper elementary (3rd-5th grade) with both programs being on one night. These programs alternate each year between a Christmas programs or a Spring program. Students also perform at Grandparents day in the spring.
